The nine steps

Each step is a short challenge you finish yourself.

1. 1

   Idea

   Every paragraph starts with ONE idea. Pick something you can explain in a few sentences.

2. 2

   Topic Sentence

   A topic sentence tells the reader what the whole paragraph is about. It is the boss sentence!

3. 3

   Supporting Details

   Supporting details prove your topic sentence. Give reasons, examples, or facts.

4. 4

   Stay On Topic

   Detective time! Some sentences wander off. Keep only the ones that match your topic sentence.

   Organize Ideas

   Put your details in an order that makes sense: first, next, then, finally.

6. 6

   Conclusion

   A conclusion wraps up your idea. Do not add anything new — just close the door nicely.

   Edit

   Editing is checking the rules: capital letters, end marks, and spacing.

   Revise

   Revising makes it stronger. Trade tired words for powerful ones.

   Finished Paragraph

   You built this yourself, sentence by sentence. Read it out loud and be proud.
